Alex Casey
Alex Casey (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of Oregon. Her research interests focus on ways in which people sustain, create, and rebuild housing post-fire in the Pacific Northwest, and ways in which the insurance industry influences these dynamics. Alex’s dissertation work, supported by Oregon Consumer Justice Foundation, utilizes spatial analysis and qualitative methods to theorize and analyze changing landscapes of insurance coverage for manufactured and mobile homeowners in Oregon and beyond. Previously, she has worked with nonprofits, advocacy groups, and government agencies focused on issues of renewable energy infrastructure and decommissioning, the political economies of wildfire mitigation, and wildfire policy and mapmaking. She holds a BA in Global Studies from the University of California — Berkeley, and a Masters in Geography from the University of Oregon.
