Dustin Mulvaney

Dustin Mulvaney is a Professor in the Environmental Studies Department at San José State University (SJSU) and a Fellow with the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines. His research includes work on just transitions, solar energy commodity chains, natural resource development, and circular economy. Author of Solar Power: Innovation, Sustainability, Environmental Justice published by the University California Press in 2019 and Sustainable Energy Transition: Socio-Ecological Dimensions of Decarbonization with Palgrave-MacMillan in 2020, Dustin’s areas of expertise and research are on land use change, life cycle assessment, recycling & waste, and the environmental justice impacts of energy technologies, supply chains, and infrastructures, with extensive emphasis on the life cycle impacts of solar photovoltaics and lithium-ion batteries. He serves on the Technical Advisory Committee to the Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission of Santa Clara County, the Technical Committee for an Ultra-Low Carbon Solar Standard for photovoltaics recently developed by the Green Electronics Council, and is part of the Lithium Valley Equity Technical Advisory Group advising Comite Civico del Valle on issues related to the development of geothermal and lithium near the Salton Sea in Imperial County, California.
